Before you listen

There are stages of readiness for change, and they don’t always match what our words and minds are saying. This talk pulls back the curtain on authoring change, in ourselves and in the people we hope to help.

Change must be primed. Think of the friend who nods at your advice, then repeats it back to you two years later with no credit. I borrow a picture from physics: be the theoretical physicist who imagines past your circumstances, and the applied one who tests ideas in everyday life. Change can be motivated, the way news that a college classmate had died after four strokes had me eating greens and back at the gym. It is best authored from an inspired place, like four months into my bodybuilding phase, when a new space made me research harder and ask more questions.

Listen for how I decide where to give my time: less to someone who only wants agreement, the lion’s share to the person who is hungry and ready to consume.

From the talk

  • We can't make these pivots in our life on the turn of a dime. The momentum has to shift. Our mind has to be receptive.

  • Your life is a continuous experiment, there is no end to the experiment, because there is no end to you.

  • You can't live in your mind when action is required.

Sit with this

Take some time and jot them down.

  1. How many times have you had a situation where you're offering a friend or close loved one, a piece of advice?

In today’s episode, what we’re going to be talking about is the process of becoming ready for change not only for yourself, but also there are times when we want to author change and assist others in bringing out their their best and brightest aspects of themselves. That part where we all reach toward more of our potentiality and on the road. In life, it’s it’s one of my aims to not only just teach, but show people a higher aspect of themselves. This a magical lesson, I’ll say that I had to learn along the way. So what I want you to do, is I want you to open your mind, right, I want you to strap in your seatbelts. I will show you the phases that we must go through to be ready for change.

Let’s go. So welcome back. In this episode today, I want to talk about the nature of being ready for change. Being ready for change is an interesting space to examine. One of my purposes for being here on this planet is to is to be a part of personal transformation, not only just for myself, but the individuals I come in contact with. I want to allow their flower to bloom for their potential to reach a place where it is, it is touched, they’re on the brink of it, they’re realizing it on a day to day basis. Through my own process of self examination of self discovery, there are certain truths that have become more obvious, as time has shown me consistent example. Change must be primed.

Change is not a choice, it is something that must set up to be taken. We can’t make these pivots in our life on the turn of a dime. The momentum has to shift. Our mind has to be receptive. The world that we exist within has to be prepared, and we must be ready. I’ve discovered over time, is that the conversation about change, and the reality that that meets it, they have to coexist. So initially, somebody who will say I know this is stage one, they’ve just heard an idea. It would be nice, it will be novel, but there is no connection to it. There are no roots that have really sunken into the ground. How many times have you had a situation where you’re offering a friend or close loved one, a piece of advice.

You’re telling them you might be reading scripture you might be saying some things that you’ve learned the hard way and you’re offering it to somebody younger, or somebody who can’t see what you see so clearly. You find the words, or you find the emotion, you find a way to communicate this idea over to them. They look at you they nod their head and they act as if they ended instead, yet, in a live, the change that they said they were capable of, is not authored. interesting dilemma. Fast forward a little bit, they’ve made the change, they come back to you and repeat everything that you shared with them. But they don’t give you any credit at all. It’s happened, it’s happened to me, I’m sure it’s happened to you, you end up telling them, Hey, I told you that two years ago, but not everybody’s ready for change.

Or you have the conversation where you’re you’re really seeing a friend who needs to make a change, who wants to make a change. They know what they need to do. But they seem to be at a phase in her life, where they want to unburden himself of the problem by sharing it in extreme detail with you. Now, no matter the level, and precision of advice that you offer, the conversation is not about making change, it seems like it’s about getting some stuff off of their own chest. And so you have different phases that we all go through where we’re in the introduction phase, you have that one, when we’re in the next phase could be when we’re in the information gathering phase, like what are my choices for where I stand.

And as we develop in grow, it begins to mirror what I’ve noticed in physics. Now, you may ask yourself, what is physics has to do with any of this. So as I’ve I’ve continued my love for science. And I was introduced to concepts. And one of these concepts of physics is you have two type of physicists, you have the theoretical physicist, now this individual isn’t in the lab, what they’re doing is they’re using the far reaches of their imagination, to try to understand the physical world, from a mathematical equation, how things relate with the world, and gravity and all these forces that affect life. And so they play it out, and computer simulations and models and theorems and postulates. And so, the theoretical physicist uses their imagination, to see beyond the current situation, right.

And from a behavioral perspective, and as we look at our own change, some of us are the theoretical transformational individuals. But in physics, the second phase of physics, second type of physicist, or the applied physicists, these are the individuals who are taking this imaginative theoretical physics, and seeing how these ideas play out in the real world. In the labs, they conduct experiments, they conduct experiments on experiments to see if that vision that they had about the physical world is true. Now, what I’m asking you, the big ask that I have for you is to understand that your life is a continuous experiment, there is no end to the experiment, because there is no end to you every day you wake up a new person with a new context.

But the our root assumptions of the world, the way we see the world, acting, its behavior and our relationship to it. We’re testing those assumptions every day. Every day is an experiment. So I’m asking you to be both both parts of the physicists. I’m asking you to be the theoretical person that can see beyond the circumstances of your day, not trapped or confined by the limitations of your own thought. I’m also asking you to be the behavioral physicist. I’m asking you to be that applied. Person who go goes into the world and will test your assumptions over and over inch by inch, day by day. And the best way to figure out if your ideas have a legitimacy is to breathe life into them in your everyday ordinary experiences.

So this takes us back to another phase of change. And this phase of change that I want to talk about next is the motivated change. How many times have we looked into the world or we looked into our lives with our friends, family, or we seen it on TV and seen people ravaged with illness? Somebody you know, who’s choices have led to their own illness, hypertension, food, diabetes. You know, in my life recently, I just got some news that a gentleman who I attended college with, had suffered four strokes. And this last one proved to be fatal. Now, my response is a motivated response, I’m thinking to myself, mortality is real. And health is a lifestyle choice. And so therefore, I’ve been eating a bunch of greens this week, let’s just say that my frequency to the gym has picked up.

That’s a, that’s a motivated choice. One of the things that’s also motivated choices, I look at the behavior of individuals, and you see that it’s just spiraling out of control. And the only thing that will reverse course, or pivot in a better direction, is the concept of, they might just have to hit bottom before they bounce back. It’s not necessary, but that might be the likely thing that happens. And if we ask ourselves, why, why would it take something negative, something painful to happen to offer a new type of change? Because the motivation is there, I’m ready. It can’t get any worse than this. And we realize in those moments that we are at a low, and we are out of control, and we have no control, or that we can begin to gain control.

And so sometimes, the lows of the lows, make you listen, a little more make you try a little harder, you can’t live in your mind when action is required. In the last, the best space to author change is from an inspired place and the inspired place what’s beautiful about the Inspire places that the motivated action to motivated change can show you a whole landscape of possibilities. I look at myself back in the day when I used to. I was hell bent at this bodybuilding phase in my life. And, you know, I was motivated to go into gym I felt a little out of shape, I was out of shape. And eventually, month after month after month, four months in I saw a new space. And a new space inspired me.

I researched harder I asked questions. I was willing not only just to read but to go in and see if it worked the next day. I was willing to ask questions and humble myself and open my ears to listen. And so this inspired place, curiosity creates its own thirst. Ships, what did they say a rising tide raises all ships. Water seeks its own level. And what I mean when I when I give all those three polls right there is that that fascination, that curiosity, that passion, that enthusiasm and DLC, ASAN is enough to author a level of transformation and change independent, independent of like Time, time itself. Because what we’re doing is we’re applying ideas. We’re opening our mind we’re listening. We’re receptive not only from an inspired place where we’re convening with the divine, but Life and where we have this rhythm through our day to day that helps it assist us in authoring that change.

Every day, you have conversations that I listen from the knowledge that I shared in this episode, you can see in somebody’s eyes, where they’re at in their life and how receptive they are to change, I’m not gonna give a whole bunch of conversation as somebody who just wants you to agree with their perspective of the world, they may not be ready for change, they just be maybe wanting to talk, somebody who’s ill informed, doesn’t deserve that kind of time. I really get turned on. And I really get excited about that inspired person who’s passionate, who’s curious, who’s hungry, and is ready to consume. Their ears are wide, open and receptive. That’s where I give the lion’s share of my time. And the interesting thing that happens along the way as well, is that we’re able to give ourselves some accountability.

We know when we’re living too heavily, in a theoretical world, we’re giving excuses why we’re not ready to go into the world, and test out the assumptions that we formulated. Test them out, apply it, try it, do it in small ways, build up to small wins, day by day, have success each day in that level of, of experiment that you’re willing to try. It begins with you, it begins with you, and it will end with you. The person that you want to become as it relates to any area of your life, career, health, lifestyle, finances, is within your hands, and you have this control. Ultimately, the pendulum may swing in both directions. Let us not wait for that moment where it’s in the negative. And it’s motivating us to make a change with our back up against the wall.

Let’s see how far can swing in a positive direction. Let’s move to those inspired places. So that we’re able to bloom into the person that is really truly expressing the level of potentiality that we know we have within us. So I can’t think of too much else to say today. So this was another episode. We’re talking about authoring. Change. Ready for change.
