Before you listen

2020 left a lot of us ready to hit restart. For me it was this podcast, back after a long while without an episode. For you it may be a job or a relationship. Hitting restart takes a series of reactivations that restore our access to where we’ve been and where we want to be.

At a beginning we lean on our heads and ask how to get there, chasing the result. The talk asks us to slow down and fall in love with the process. You come back a fuller version of yourself, so the abilities you once had at easy recall take a different level of activation. I recorded the intro a few times, comparing myself to how effortlessly I used to flow, until I set those criteria aside and just engaged.

Listen for the habit: early on it takes willpower to install, and once it is installed the mind steps out of the way. Day after day of showing up, it goes from effort to effortlessness.

From the talk

  • You are not entering the same relationship that you left.

  • That person that you're comparing yourself to is within you.

  • Resist the urge to take score.

Welcome to another episode of Halftime Talks. My name is Rahim Rasul, and you’re listening to the podcast that recognizes that in the middle of our game of life, whether you’re up by 10 or down by 20, we all need a halftime talk to uplift us, inspire us, and even challenge us to bring that level of performance that you and I both know it’s going to take to win the game.

The place I want to begin today is with a sincere segment of appreciation. I don’t think there’s anything more transformative that we can do as a process or a small little habitual ritual than appreciation, and so today, I want to appreciate these experiences, these rich, these, contrasting, these, the exposure to a lack of preference, or sometimes the absolute abundance of preference. Because one thing that life will give us and the exposure to life will provide us is clarity, clarity of direction, clarity of purpose, clarity of vision. And it’s up to us to to take that, to look at the destination and route our path towards it.

So I appreciate these moments, these interactions, these feelings of sometimes overwhelming and frustration, because it makes the destination clear in my mind, and I’m sure that we’ve all been on a wild roller coaster this year, seeing things that we thought we could or would never see, But we are here. If you’re listening to this, you are here, and that, in and of itself, is something to appreciate. I appreciate just the wisdom that comes with staying on board, paying attention and cultivating our awareness. So that’s my appreciation today, and I just wanted to share that with you before we continue.

In today’s episode, we are going to be talking about the restart. What more apropos, relevant, contextual episode could I have chosen than to restart because for myself, it’s been a while since we’ve shared some time together. It’s been a while since I’ve published an episode. It’s been a while, and there are things that come with a restart that it’s important for us to acknowledge, understand and flow and harmonize with if we are to get the most out of it. I suspect that many of you find yourselves in situations this year, this moment, this time in your life, where all you want to do is just hit restart, overstimulated, overwhelmed with the reality of our circumstances and restarts beginnings.

These are themes, and as we come to understand the nature of these themes and restart is a new beginning. We can put ourselves in a position to capitalize on this wealth of understanding that’s been accumulated throughout all of human history and is here for your benefit. Now there are a variety of restarts for me. This one is halftime talks circulating, pumping the life force of blood back into the system that has had so much rich and delicious history for others, it may be the job, it may be the health, it may be the way, it may be the relationship, but in all of these unique vectors, the.

They are restarts. They are beginnings. And typically, in that state of beginning, we are using a lot of our cognitive load, the way that we think, to try to solve our way through it. And typically we ask questions of, how do I get there? We’re looking for the results. We’re looking for the outcome. We’re looking for the rewards. And I even on this podcast, I love process, and it is incumbent upon those seekingly start to fall in love with the process, because this process of reactivation can take time and engagement and more understanding, because you are not entering the same relationship that you left. There’s so much more.

There’s so much evolution. You’ve become a better, fuller, more brilliant version of yourself as a result of the life experiences that have transpired between the time that you were fully activated and now. So what we must do is we must first honor the direction and intention that we encompass. And what I mean by that is we got to slow down, and our primary intention should be to gather that momentum again, to fall in love with the process, to begin to reawaken the pathways which the energy used to flow, and when we try to do it too quick, we become overwhelmed and overstimulated. We get frustrated that our abilities that we once possessed at easy access and easy recall takes a different level of activation.

What I will say is that that person that you’re comparing yourself to is within you. It’s not as accessible, and so even me, I’ve recorded the intro a few times I did the appreciation a few times I’ve compared myself to how easy and effortlessly I used to flow until I just set some of those rules and those criteria aside and just engaged. It’s like a habit. Early on, it takes so much willpower to install that habit. But the beauty is, is that our minds step out of the way when that habit becomes installed, and there isn’t as much cognitive processing power, there isn’t as much I need to self condemnation.

Why isn’t it this way? The shoulds. We’re not seeking the insights of our our focus groups or our social circles. We’re not reward or result oriented. When the habit is installed. We are just performing. But right now we are getting our train on the track. We are looking down the rails a little too much, and we are in the process of battling the version of who we are with, the version that we’re telling ourself we should be. But here’s what I know about you. You have an indomitable spirit. There is no give up in you. That’s why you are here, because you understand what you’re capable of.

Number two, you are capable of progress. Progress on top of progress. On top of progress equals more progress. The third piece of insight I share with you is resist the urge. Resist the urge to take score. And in resist in that resistance of the urge to take score you let the game naturally unfold into what is capable of being, what is capable of expressing, what is capable of showing itself. You know who we were is not who we are. We are a fuller more can. Complete version of ourself. Now you’ve acquired all these experiences that you don’t have to do again. All you have to do is get to a space or an atmosphere where you can access that intelligence that already flows through into you, because once this momentum begins to flow, there’s no slowing it down, and the only person that can inhibit its natural flow is ourself.

Is comparison is shoulds it’s seeking counsel from those who are not necessarily involved or relevant or contextually relevant to what we are pursuing. You know your dreams. You know where your preferences lie. You know what you want, and sometimes we don’t know how, and that lack of direction of the How does not necessarily impede the vision that you hold. Purpose and vision are all you need to get on the road, because there’s a magic orchestration that occurs once you commit and surrender to the process. And so in this restart, take it slow. Do the activities that allow you to build up the confidence, surround yourself with the material, with the ideas, with the voices, with the podcast, with the people, with the environment that supports you in your endeavor.

Day after day, your muscles activate your mind activates your body activates this atmosphere activates, and it continues to provide you material evidence that you are on your path and as you double down each day, as you show up each day, it goes from effort to effortlessness. It goes from effort and work to an ingrained habit where you’re not even thinking about, should you, shouldn’t you? You just do it. And it takes time to get to that perch. And so I’m asking you, for me to you, and I’m asking even myself, as I reengage in this process of creating these podcasts, to trust the process, trust the progressions, trust yourself.

Go forth and seek joy. My name is Rahim Russell, thank you for listening to me. Thank you for showing up. Thank you for continuing to support this through all of the stuff that’s going on. And I hope I can be your concierge to making that connection between you and yourself. Peace.
