Before you listen

Far too many people feel entitled. In the marathon of life we don’t all start at the same spot, and the world owes you nothing. This talk weighs entitlement’s advantages against its disadvantages, and what leaning on it does to us psychologically.

I struggled with this one, and wrote and contemplated before I could share it. We graduate, degree in tow, and ask where the jobs are. We do what others said would grant success, then demand it. There is a time to stand on the help of others, but a crutch only carries you so far. The caterpillar transforms in a cocoon of its own introspection. And those who start behind have an advantage too: the process forges them.

Listen for the bike and the pool. The person holding the back of your bike can only do that for so long before they hold you back. Once they let go, your confidence goes up.

From the talk

  • The unconditional pursuit of any worthy goal has its own rewards.

  • When you build from the ground up, you value the structure, you value the process, you value the person that you were able to become.

How do we fix that?

That’s what catching creative steps in some online community dedicated to examining and uncovering the creative process that gets us there by interviewing exceptionally talented individuals across all creative spectrum to make sure you’re there day one front growth center seat ready to rock catch and creatives launches, got a caption creatives.com Sign up. Hey, guys, welcome back to halftime talks. Like I said, today we’re gonna be talking about how the world owes you. Nothing. I recognize I get it, I get it. It’s very abrasive. It’s a really in your face kind of topic. But I know that it’s necessary as we continue to refine and craft that individual that goes forth into the world and creates its reality. Now, I too, in beginning to explore this idea, I questioned it I said, Is this necessary is this unnecessarily for an individual to really refine that level of exceptionalism?

Inside. And I sat and I struggle with it. And I wrote and I wrote and I I contemplated it and today I share those, those fact findings, those those understandings of why it’s so necessary to evolve into this perspective. Because the world doesn’t owe you anything. We graduate from college degree in tow, and say, where are the jobs? We complete a certification or are we do what other people have said will will grant us success? And then we demand it at that space? Where’s where’s it at? I did this is the conditional approach. And that’s one thing that especially in the last episode of becoming, it can’t be based upon conditions. The unconditional pursuit of any worthy goal has its own rewards. The world owes you nothing.

We have a tendency to feel entitled, we have a tendency to demand and expect from others. Why? Why Why shouldn’t we? The reason that we should understand that the world owes us nothing is because entitlements. Entitlements from our parents, entitlements from government entitlements from anybody, make us inherently weak. Now, I understand that has its own ramifications. Understand that you like yo, I needed help at one point. And I don’t negate that. There is a time that we can we can stand on the assistance of others. But over the long haul, the subtle implication of even that says I can’t do for myself. I rely on other people and other circumstance to assist me. a crutch can only take you so Long, the caterpillar doesn’t stay the butterfly, it demands within itself a level of introspection and contemplation, and transforms a metamorphosis itself in a cocoon, in a cocoon of its own introspection, and development, and refinement and processing and becomes the butterfly.

We can not sit here on our laurels and expect the world to just parcel out this idea of fairness, which doesn’t exist. No two individuals start at the same point of the race, some have an advantage. And, and the others that may start perceivably. Behind the others have an advantage too. There’s a process there’s a forging of the spirit, there’s a there’s an ability that is drawn for from them, that teaches them a sense of value, and teaches them a sense of, of, of encouragement from those lessons that allow them to go further than any of those individuals who may have started further. So there’s a benefit. There’s a value. There’s a rationale that we can forge to enter straight forge that process. But there comes a point when even this entitlement, this sense of entitlement, that we have to let go because it no longer assists us.

In debilitates. Us, it weakens us, it makes us into victims. And when we begin to believe and see the world, that psychology of dependence, we become exactly what we’re hoping to avoid. So the world owes you nothing. You have to pour within yourself, a level of value that the world responds to. The entitlement is dead Social Security, people are taking away affirmative action, the entitlement is dying. But what is not dying, is your ability to fashion value with your hands, with your mind, with your with everything that you bring to the marketplace. Comparing is dead, that starting line isn’t equal. And understanding that makes you really resolve, make resolute within yourself the resolution of catching up. And when you build from the ground up, you value the structure, you value the process, you value the person that you were able to become, but escapes others who may have started before you.

This idea of dependency, this idea that you need the world to give you is from a perspective of fear and victimization and dependence. And that doesn’t really build the type of character, the type of resolve the type of person that believes that all is possible through them. And what do I know which is in you? What do I know? What do I know that you possess, you possess the vigor, you possess the fortitude, you possess the tenacity to continue to explore. There is no greater experience that one can can come up to in life than an understanding and awareness within themselves, that they can make it for themselves, that they can do it for themselves. Only. If you look back at your childhood, remembering how you learned how to ride a bike, and you had that, that parent or that brother or that friend who held the back at a bike.

They can only do that for so long before they hold you back. Swimming near the edge of the pool where you can just reach out for safety that can only serve you for so long. With both the bike and a pool analogy. Once they let go. Once you get into the middle, that poor your confidence goes up. You tell yourself I can do it. And from that perspective, it opens up doors and doors and doors. If you fall on that crutch saying Help me Help me, you owe me. I’m entitled to this because of that. you limit yourself. you limit yourself and define your whole reality. what’s owed to you out of fear out of a perspective that something special may not be within you.

I know your worth, I know what SR was great, I know that you’re going to have to step out of more than just faith, but an expectation that that power that’s broader than you more expansive than you that created you has your back, that you can surrender to the inner strength that you’ve shown yourself over and over again. And you can buy yourself a numerate these moments, enumerate these times in your life, and numerate and give examples to when you did have that power. But expecting the world to give you at every step of accomplishment, that to expect the world that the world owes you something is myopic, and vain, what we must learn to do is build that sense of value within ourselves, bring it to the surface and share with the world.

And that’s when you become the individual with that self confidence that anything is possible. And from that sphere, that sphere of possibility. The things we’ve create, become vast opportunities beat a path to our door, your reputation precedes you, as you continue to carve and refine idea of exceptionalism, the idea of excellence, and you embody it, and you become a beacon of it, and a world resonates with that space. And then it opens a path to your door. The world doesn’t owe you anything, if anything, you owe it to the world, to bring your best self to the party. You owe it to the world to continue to refine that which is you are you owe it to the world to give back in a way that the world gave to you in no subtle moments.

You are powerful. I am powerful. We are powerful together, that self confidence, that full idea self that knowing of our own possibility negates the necessity for those entitlements. While there is a time which they aren’t necessary. We’ve moved well beyond him. And there’s times when we do need some assistance. But it should not last long. Gather your ballots and leap forward into the possibility that which is you.
