Halftime Talks Episode 202 The Field
More Mindfulness
Do we expect order in a world filled with disorder?
Before you listen
This episode returns with a conversation about becoming more mindful of mindfulness. The fountain of youth begins by replenishing the vitality of the mind. With an all-time level of stimuli petitioning for our attention, we have to stay deliberate about what that attention consumes.
The mind is fertile soil, and how we tend it dictates the harvest. I catch myself on the couch, perusing station after station for some nugget to consume, while another part of my mind is looking for inspiration and for order. Movies and Instagram stir us up toward dissatisfaction. Yet we are in the front seat, behind the steering wheel, and a mind that drops its defensive stance can open its sail to a wind that takes us further with less effort.
Listen for the practices near the end: sitting in silence and breathing, or going up the alphabet and back down on one breath, set into motion over time.
From the talk
It's hard to say you value something that you don't prioritize.
How we tend to that landscape, how we till, how we turn, how we fertilize this ground dictates the harvest, dictates what we will consume in our lives.
We get to choose not just the direction we climb, but how we feel while we're climbing.
Sit with this
- Where do we derive our order from?
- Is it a function of what we think or how we think?

Welcome to another episode of Halftime Talks. My name is Raheem Rasul, and you’re listening to the podcast where we recognize that in the middle of our game of life, whether you’re up by 10 or down by 20, we all need halftime talks to uplift us, inspire us and challenge us to bring that level of performance. You and I both know it’s going to take to win the game. What I love about halftime talks is I could take some time off. I could take the longest half time in the world, and I’ll be back recharge, ready to go, ready to rock, ready to give you not just what you need, but a little bit of that sustenance that fuels your mind, your body and your soul.
And the way that we begin these talks, we begin with a little bit of appreciation, and sometimes it might be hard to appreciate, but we can’t lose sight of what is going well in our lives. And as we look into our lives and we see the things that continue to fertilely present itself, the abundance the abundance of time, the abundance of health, the abundance of mental clarity that gives us the tool, that gives us the tools that gives us the equipment, the resources and the ways that we can go about achieving the things that we’ve determined are our ambitions. So that’s a little bit of appreciation and so on.
Today’s episode, I want to riff with you. I want to have a conversation with you. I want to talk to you. I want to get inside your mind by getting inside my mind and together, this conversation has the capacity not only just to transform the moment, the week, the day, the hour, the minute, the second, but it has to transform transformative power to influence your life. And let’s begin right here, man, one of the things that I’m really focused on right now is mindfulness. This sacred space of our mind, this fertile soil that allows all, all sustenance, all all life to spring forth from it is our mind.
It is not just the quality of the mind, but the impressionable state of our mind, it’s hard to say you value something that you don’t prioritize. It’s hard to build something influential that is obviously too often influenced by the external our mind is this beautiful, beautiful device, tool, instrument that allows us to navigate the day, to navigate the space, to navigate situations, but often we are fueling it, we are allowing its natural, ravenous nature to consume everything except what keeps it in an optimal state. Often I sit in front of the couch on TV, and I look at content, and I find myself perusing station after station, looking for something, something of suss, a nugget, some bit of entertainment that I could watch and consume.
But my mind is at the same time, using a counter acting force that wants it to feed, to fuel, to look for inspiration, to look for love. Look for that unconditionality. Look for what I’ve determined as the Hallmark, the pentacle, the Paramount quality of order. I You got to let that breathe, because you got to let that sink in order. Are we comfortable? Are we used to? Do we expect order in a world filled with disorder, disordered minds, disordered thought, the paradox of choice and the paradox of unlimited options. Where do we derive our order from? When you look in movies, when you look at Instagram, when you look at media, it stirs us up.
It makes us fall into the maligned state of negative expectation, of dissatisfaction, the discontented mind and. All of that is disorder, the drama, the pathos of life, while it is sewn into the fabric, we still get to choose and how we approach it, how we deal with it, how we reconcile it, how we engage and how we define it, the stories we tell about it. This is the power of the mind. What the mind is capable of acquiescing toward achieving, attracting, comes from the highest states of order. And we can also find that now, is it a function of what we think or how we think, or or the quality of openness that our mind is capable of achieving, that that influences the trajectory, the trend, the momentum, the the environment of being able to be influenced positively in a direction of our desires.
This is mindfulness. This is treating your mind as it is not just a sacred temple, but as it is the receiver of the inspiration, as it is the the landscape for which all of our future crops will emerge, and how we tend to that landscape, how we till, how we turn, how we fertilize this ground dictates the harvest, dictates what we will consume in our lives. So we can’t fully blame our mind, but we must really take into account how we prepare it, how we talk to it, how we love it, how we soothe it, how we are compassion toward it, how we navigate the inevitability of the variety of situations that our mind and our body And our consciousness come into contact with on a day to day basis, our mind is this amazing thing, our mind paired with our body, paired with our humanity, paired with Our conscious recognition that we are the creators of our reality.
That which we give thought unto creates and it attracts. That which is like unto itself, it’s drawn. But if our story, if our disposition, if our stance, if our attitude, is that of an unexceptional quality, the expectation of abundance, the expectation of joy, the expectation of satisfaction, the expectation of fulfillment, begins to recede and slide down this steep incline where possibility is not entertained. The broader concept that I’m sharing here is that our minds are powerful, and we are not in a passenger seat in the trajectory and trending of our life, but we are in that front seat. We are behind the steering wheel. We are the Navigator.
We are the volition and force that creates the quality of our own experience. We get to choose not just the direction we climb, but how we feel while we’re climbing. And this climbing, this ing movement, the living, the acting, the fighting, the reading, the learning, the living, the ing of life, we get to overlay our personality, our consciousness and our attitude and that unto itself, fulfills our contract, fulfills our covenant, that we’ve created before we even emerge into this physical form, that I will be that deliberate creator through the pathos and contrast and the story of variety, I get to be. How beautiful is that, once we find.
In that quiet place, and we begin to see the leverage that begins to occur as we open our sail and harness that invisible wind. It takes us further with less effort. It lifts heavier things with less effort. It moves mountains. With less effort, we become the receiver of the synchronous orchestration. With less effort, our life can begin to move into what was once perceived as that impossible space where possibility begins to just coalesce to our expectation, from a place of mindfulness, from a place of balance, From a place of ease, from a place of flow, we are able to fulfill the aspect of our life that has precipitated these moments.
It’s hard to believe that you believe and you have faith when your whole disposition is ensconced in a protective stance, with a defensive stance, with an attrition abatement mentality, where you have to protect the goods on the table out of fear that this might just be the best time ever, and it’s downhill from here, but it’s not. How could it be? As the universe expands, so do we, as our ideas expand it open up more doors, more possibility, more opportunity for us, for us to live our truest, purest and fullest potential. So those listening, self soothe, find that self compassion. Find the principles of mindfulness for you.
If that’s sitting in silence and just breathing, if it’s going up the alphabet and coming down the alphabet on one breath, you can’t deny the power of a practice sit into motion over time, and that’s what mindfulness is. Mindfulness is running and connecting with that indwelling divinity that courses through our veins. It’s about these things and so much more, so much more that we will continue to awaken. We will continue to give life to and we will continue to love for its ultimate value. So show me what you got. Show me that you can find that respite, that pause, that space, that beautiful, beautiful space that allows you to not only excel, but exhale, not only for you to succeed, but to also proceed and reap the proceeds of the Divine dividends that are set aside by you for you and with you, orchestrated on your behalf. So feel the flow of this symphony as it continues to pervade your life. Radio, Rahim, right onto the rail. Be bold. Be true. Be you, and until next time, persist. Face you.
