Before you listen

Daily habits seem strong enough. Add the words non-negotiable and you are at the contract table, where some things get let go and some cannot even be negotiated. How far can we go when the things we call habits are so prioritized that skipping them is not an option?

Look back at a stretch when you were in the flow, and there were habits underneath it. I have three. I meditate for 15 to 20 minutes on a yoga mat, only breathing, solving nothing. I listen to audios I recorded for myself, a conversation from the deepest part of me to the present me, because the best ideas tend to evaporate. And I feed my brain with articles, books and podcasts.

Listen for the advice on building your own: start with who you want to become, then the habits that get you there. Every day won’t be a 10 out of 10. The point is to take chance out of the equation.

From the talk

  • The sun will not go down without these habits being fulfilled.

  • I'm giving myself the opportunity to take chance out of the equation.

  • Instead of what to do, I would focus on who you want to become, and what habits will get you there.

Sit with this

Take some time and jot them down.

  1. If we know it takes certain habits to cultivate an atmosphere where you can perform at your best, why do we not consider these non-negotiable?
  2. What is it for?
  3. When I say to you, non-negotiable, what conjures in your mind?

When I say to you, non negotiable, what conjures in your mind. And if you’re anything like me, when I first heard the term, non negotiable daily habits, daily habits seem strong enough, but to add the words non negotiable, like when you think of somebody sliding a contract across the table or engaged in some level of negotiation, that means some things will be kept, some things cannot even be negotiated. And some things will be let go of, to think that some daily habits should be non negotiable. It shifts you into an understanding of man do I actually have not only daily habits, but non negotiable, the sun will not go down without these habits being fulfilled. That is intense and extreme and inspiring at the same time.

And when I heard this I was in it was a passing conversation. And somebody said that and it perked my ears enough to make a mental note and then go on my phone and send myself a text that said, consider thinking about non negotiable daily habits. And what’s interesting is if we look in our life, if we look when we were tuned in, tapped in, turned on living in an extended period of time that we consider the flow, the optimal period of effectiveness and also fulfillment. As we look back into that time. There were habits that we engaged in on a day to day basis. There was a momentum that we built up from the second that we stepped out of the bed until the second that we we stepped back into the bed at the end of the day.

If we know it takes a certain level if we know it takes a certain discipline, if we know it takes certain habits to cultivate an atmosphere where you can perform at your best. Why do we not consider these non negotiable? What are my non negotiable daily habits? So since I’ve thought about this on a regular basis, since I’ve heard about it, I had to construct my non negotiable daily habits, but more important than what they are, is, as I identify them, I have to ask myself the question of, what is it for? Why, like, if you ever look at Simon cynics book, start with why this is the perfect place to start with why by connecting with the ritual, by connecting with the habit, you become intentional, it is not something that you do for the sake of but you do to activate something within you to turn that light switch of luminance on so you can radiate that best part of yourself to the world.

I’ll get into a few of my non negotiable daily habits to hopefully illuminate what it is at a deeper perspective and also show you the why I do it. So if you want to construct yours, there is an architecture to build around. The first one that I want to share is I meditate, I take 20 minutes, where there is no priority. On thinking on doing only on breathing. I have a yoga mat, I roll it out of my office, I lay down, and I focus on rhythmic rhythmic Lee breathing 15 to 20 minutes. If my thoughts begin to wander, I bring them back into the center of the road, I can sometimes feel that guardrail or that that bumps on the side of the road when you start veering off to the left or the right.

I am not trying to solve anything, I’m not looking for answers, I’m only being still. And the reason why I do that is because it gives my mind an opportunity to relax early in the day to be clear not to be problem solving, my anxiety goes down the way that I’m able to connect with my vision, my passion, my purpose, that day goes up, it’s nothing about efforting or forcing something into place. It is doing something that is not normal, but also doing something that is so natural. And so the first thing I do is meditate. The second thing that I do on a daily basis is I listened to what I call unconditional audios. And these are audio bytes that I’ve created for myself, that are conversation from the deepest part of myself to my present self, where I am whenever I’m listening to it, and I have a few subjects that I have created.

So for the concept of success, I have a constant conversation I’ve had with myself that I recorded, and that touch all the main points that I would want to know on a daily basis as it relates to my success. And so I listened to that the reason why the why of this one is because so often the best ideas tend to evaporate. What if we sat down with a concentrated period of time and gave that idea, the proper light and record it. And then now following up on that daily listen to that. So it’s no longer a desire or an ambition. It is something that is seamen and inculcated into the best parts of our mind. The next non negotiable daily habit is I have to feed my brain I have this desire and this curiosity for the things I’m interested in in the world at large.

And so at some point in a day, I will consume information as it relates to what I’m passionate about and also what I’m interested in that may take the form of articles that may take the form of books, podcasts, I try not to consume a high amount of video because video ask for your eyes and your ears. A book asks for your eyes and your time while audio just asks for your ears. And you can be engaged in other activities as well. same time. So these are my three primary non negotiable daily habits. And you can say all of them share a similar purpose is this desire to build myself from the ground up to put myself in a position each day daily to win.

Now is every day a level 10 day 10 out of 10? Not exactly. But I’m giving myself the opportunity to take chance out of the equation. Once you know what it takes to succeed, you’re given a blueprint for possibility to replicate that on a continual, daily, habitual basis. So I asked you to look at this to look at this idea of non negotiable. So when we drop the contract, it has to include this, this isn’t even an option to not include it. So as we go day by day, week, by week, month by month, we know that we’ve done this on a daily habitual basis, not just to do it, but to connect with that deeper why, of what you’re trying to bring out the activation of certain parts within us that allow us to perform at our best.

These are non negotiable daily habits. And so if you have any questions about how to construct yours, I would sit down and write down number one, instead of what to do, I would focus on who you want to become, and what habits will get you there. We can sit in our own delusion, our own misplaced fantasies about what it’ll take to succeed, but A plus B equals C, random variables that don’t contribute to the becoming of who you want to become aren’t part of the equation. So I challenge you to understand your why and understand what is it for and I challenge you to begin to build the framework and the system’s within your life that you can perform on habitually high level consistently.
